Racy Stories Archive
Welcome to the Racy Stories section of jrtart.com. I am trying to get a collection of true stories that will illuminate something of value about the issue of race in America. I am inspired by the work of the brilliant artist Kara Walker, who attempts in her work, to clarify what even she admits may be beyond the grasp of Americans to ever fully understand. Ms. Walker asks if we can ever know what it is truly like to be in the place of the other or even to understand what it is like to be yourself in history.
My thinking is that sharing the stories of individuals concerning their relations with members of different racial groups may be one way of approaching the truth. These stories cannot be simply platitudes about the brotherhood of man. Our history deserves whatever honesty we can muster, the good, the bad and the ugly.
I will start with my own, perhaps not perfectly remembered stories. Forgive my trespasses as I too will try to forgive myself.
By the way, I posted a short film on YouTube about my color theory class whom I ambushed with a shocking work of art by Kara Walker. The class's varied reactions inspired me to make this site.
